My favorite mosaic design is shared once again here on a round wall hanging. My earlier influences shine through with this Sun and Stars Mosaic.

A bright orange sun with recycled silver mirror outlining it’s shape, night sky and stars in lilac, yellow and recycled silver mirror. Pieces of Millefiori in a star pattern were places along with bits of silver mirror in the night sky. All stained glass and mirror were hand cut to fit the design.

Grouted in charcoal and sealed, the sides and back are painted an awesome dark lilac color.

A D-ring is attached for easy hanging and there’s a felted foot at the base to protect your walls from getting scratched. Measures 7 inches round.

In the Studio

Not really all that much to report this week. Still recovering from the injury. It’s a slow healing process hindered by days when I don’t give myself enough down time or it rains. Yesterday I felt pretty good and sat at the computer too long. Today I am in tremendous pain and rain is predicted to arrive soon. Bad combo for me.

This means I’m doing very little at the work table. No actual work is getting completed but I am gathering things up for future projects; I’d like to get something made before Valentine’s Day to put in my shop because I found an awesome plate in my stash filled with hearts a good friend gave me to use in mosaics. I’m thinking the shards would look great placed on a frame with some other yummy materials on it. If I am able, I’ll get to it soon!

Pretty plate once nipped into shards will get used on a frame.

I also decided this year to take one week a month and dedicate it to a Christmas mosaic item. I had nothing to share that had the holiday decor on it this year. If I break it up and really do it every month, I should have at least 10 items to list and share when the time comes.

One easy project is taking this vintage milk glass candy bowl and putting the nipped up dish next to it inside the bottom. This will give it a cool look, it can still be used as it is, but it will be upcycled and a piece of mosaic art once completed to use as it’s intended purpose or to display on a shelf or table all by itself.

Candy dish will get some holiday shards added soon.

I sold the crescent moon with the swinging star this week! It was placed with the small star mosaic and listed as a set but the customer only wanted the one. This was the 3 piece set that I was not sure how to list them. Now that the moon is sold, the star will be saved for the table at a festival happening over the summer.

The sun is still available and was made into a separate listing. It is my featured item for Friday.

Time to go rest until I’m needed to watch the grandbabies.

Measures 6 inches in diameter.

A great focal point, this gazing ball can be placed on a pedestal and set in the center of a table surrounded by candlelight. Shown in the photos sitting on a sill by the window to see the reflective qualities from the sun. Covered in triangles of gold mirror and grouted in antique white grout. Sealed but not waterproof.

This may be a mere 6 inch sphere but it is packed with magic! Gazing balls are rich in history. It’s been referred to as a Globe of Happiness, Witch Ball and Victorian Ball. The gazing globe today can be used as an enhancement to the flower garden. The reflective orb allows the whole garden, including the sky, to be viewed with one glance. It should be placed in something and not directly on the ground if used outside, keeping it away from standing water.

A single globe sitting on a stone pedestal adds elegance to your garden. A wrought iron holder gives strength. It can be placed around many other gazing balls making it part of the landscape. When displaying this gazing ball please remember it is not weather proof. It must be protected from extreme weather changes of both cold and hot.

This would look so pretty in a Shabby Chic decorated room, a Rustic setting or Victorian living room. It’s got tons of personality and fits in well with a variety of decor.

Health: I’m making very slow progress with my RSI recovery but I’m making progress just the same. At least it’s not getting worse! Another few weeks will take me to the time when I can put more than a few minutes at the work table without pain. I’m looking forward to it!

Studio: I have managed to do a few things, mostly prep for the next projects.

I also have a catcher’s mask to try to mosaic and am still working out how to do it in my head. I’ve almost got it figured out but won’t share the thoughts or photos until I’ve been able to work on it a bit.

While looking for a few things to prime the other day, I found old clay pots I had been given for smashing. They were in bad shape; cracked, holes in them in the middle of the pots, no longer usable as they are. Taking a hammer and no real strength behind it (don’t have it at the moment anyway) I broke up the pots into pieces. These were made in Mexico according to the stamp on the bottom and one pot had 1976 stamped on the bottom. Awesome! Vintage pottery shards to play with!!

Etsy: I’ve listed a few things on Etsy but one thing I thought I would list has now become something I won’t be able to sell just yet. The 6 inch gazing ball prototypes I made over the summer have been polished up and rephotographed. The one with triangles is listed and has been getting a little bit of attention and love. That’s always nice.

Artsy Home: I listed “Star Shine” on both sites this week. I made this a few years ago. It’s been bounced around from site to site and has been displayed in a few places too. Now it is once again available with updated photos to show the awesomeness of the tangerine, lemon, lilac and royal blue stained glass!

Everything Else: The gazing ball that won’t be listed had a face lift. This is the one that was made using square pieces of gold mirror and I ran out of it before I could finish up the mosaic. So I grabbed silver mirror and finished it. Grouting the gold in antique white and the silver in black, I always knew there was more to do on it, but I didn’t know what. While resting over the weekend, I figured it out.

I painted Chakra colors on the ball starting at the line where the gold and silver mirror meet and going in both directions. It looks terrific now and actually helped me with my meditation the other day. It may just stay here with me forever!
